Getting Started

What is Ken Download Manager (KDM)?
Ken Download Manager (KDM) is the world's most popular download acceleration application. After installation, KDM fully integrates with your web browser and accelerates your downloads by up to 400%. Beyond Speeding up your Internet experience, KDM comes with other cool features including the ability to accelerate files downloaded via FTP, HTTP and HTTPS protocols, pause and resume downloads, and even recover from dropped Internet connections. KDM is compatible with ANY Internet connection (dial-up, cable, DSL/ADSL, T1, etc.) and gives users maximum performance from available bandwidth.
How does Ken Download Manager accelerate my download speeds?
Ken Download Manager (KDM) acceleration is achieved by two factors:
  1. Locating the most responsive servers from which to access the file
  2. Using our patented multi-connection feature to perform the download
To locate the most responsive servers, KDM executes a proximity check to determine which of the available mirror sites are most responsive in relation to your specific location. Then it initiates multiple connections to download several different segments of the same file simultaneously and reassemble them at the user's PC. This results in maximum utilization of the available bandwidth.

Can I download from web video / hosting sites?
With the KDMster plugin you can One-Click download from video/hosting sites such as youtube, vimeo, mediafire, rapidshare, etc...avoiding the need to follow page after page until you finally start to download. No need to wait through endless count-downs. Avoid the distracting ads on the pages and if there is a CAPTCHA requirement (to type in twisted characters in order to proceed), KDM will prompt you to type it without all the annoying bells and whistles that usually surround it.
Just copy the desired link and paste it into KDM via the Add button on the top left corner of KDM's main dialog. KDM will then check the file availability and let you know its status, letting you know which files are available for download and which are not. KDM will even let you know if a certain file is available to download for free and which requires an account - Giving you all the information you need to manage your downloads efficiently.
Can I download files with extensions not in KDM's configuration?

Privacy & Security

Does KDM allow me to guard my privacy on a public or shared computer?
If you are sharing your computer with other users and your privacy is important to you, KDM has a special Trace Cleaner privacy feature that allows you to safeguard your privacy. Another option is to use our File Shredder feature which allows you to delete the file, its recycle bin copy and all the download traces, in a single click. Read more about Trace Cleaner and File Shredder.
How do I make sure that my confidential information won't be restored by others who work on my computer.
KDM has a feature called File Shredder. File Shredder is an enhanced delete tool. When you shred a file, it not only deletes it, but also makes sure there's no copy in the recycle bin or any other temporary folder in your computer. When shredding files, as there's no way to undo it, we suggest using discretion.

How do you use KDM Shredder feature? Select the Downloads tab and then the Completed item under the Filter Pane on the left. Right click one or more files, select Shred File and then in the Confirm Shred window click Yes.

NOTE: You can use the File Shredder for any files on your computer, even if it wasn't downloaded by KDM. Simply right-click on any file or folder and choose Shred from the shortcut menu. Then click Yes to confirm.
How do I eliminate all download information?
For this purpose, KDM created a special privacy feature called the Trace Cleaner. It deletes the file record from both the Completed Downloads window and the History window.

A KDM Trace Cleaner window appears asking if you want to automatically clean traces after every download. Click Yes or No according to your choice. Another window appears. Please note that if you simply delete files from the Downloads tab, the files will still appear in your History window. In addition, whenever you re-click a download URL, KDM asks if you want to re-download the file.

NOTE: Trace Cleaner will NOT delete the file itself. To do that you can Delete the file or even Shred it.
How do I check if my downloaded files are safe for my computer?
Speedbit's KDM offers you an additional level of security by testing the files you download with leading antivirus programs and sending you an alert letting you know if it is a Trusted, Potentially Unwanted, or High Risk file. KDM's download security is powered by Speedbit's Multi Anti-Virus (MAV) analysis service. It provides you with the test results of the file you have downloaded from several antivirus applications. This comparison gives you valuable insight into the nature of your files, and helps you determine if they are safe.
How do I automatically check every file I download for viruses?
You may select files that have been downloaded and scan them - inoculating, fixing or quarantining them, depending on results of the virus scan. This option can only be enabled if an existing anti-virus program is associated with KDM.
